Welcome to Jacob's Well

Jacob's Well is a community of people who are following Jesus' example to love God and others. We desire our focus to be on loving God above all things and we believe it is impossible to love God without also loving those He created. We do not always get it right. In fact, we all mess up quite frequently. But we continue to strive to love one another and follow Jesus together.

Everyone is welcome to join us during any of our Sunday night worship gatherings, one of our weekly community group meetings or for any of our various service projects. As a community we do have a few very strong convictions that guide what we do and how we do it. Sometimes these convictions do not resonate with those who are used to the typical consumer oriented church so we want to be upfront about these.

1. We value Jesus as revealed in the Bible and strive hard to follow after him in all things; therefore we are not willing to go beyond the Bible’s teachings.

2. We realize that none of us have reached a state of perfection, therefore we strive to create an atmosphere that is free of condemnation, where it is ok not to be ok, after all Jesus came not to call the righteous but the unrighteous. However, we also believe that God is in the business of transformation and he is constantly changing lives, so while it is ok not to be ok, it is not ok to stay that way.

3. We value both knowing and following Jesus. We are not content to learn more and more about God but continue to remain the same. We believe that one of the great sins of the church is that we have for so long allowed our people to call themselves followers of Jesus yet do nothing. Jesus said that those who wish to follow him must take up their cross daily and follow him, therefore we desire to have our attitudes and our actions change as a result of being near to God and we have a great desire to learn to die to ourselves so that we can live for something far greater - God and His Kingdom.

While these are strong convictions, we greatly value all of God’s people, not just those who think like us or are part of our community. We realize that some churches do things differently than we do and our convictions do not resonate with everyone. Regardless, we affirm all who love God and are devoted to him and encourage everyone to seek God's Kingdom in community with other followers of Jesus. If Jacob's Well is not your cup of tea, there are other excellent, bible-believing congregations in the Sugar Land area.
