Core Values Knowing God, Loving People, and Transforming Lives. This is not just a tag line at Jacobs Well, these are our guiding principles, they express the heart of who we are and who we hope to become as a church. Out of these guiding principles flow eight essential core values that influence everything we do. If our guiding principles express the heart of Jacob's Well then these core values reveal our soul. At Jacob's Well we value the following: 1. Truth - We believe that Jesus is truth, that he is the center piece of all human history and that He has revealed himself to us through his written word, the Bible. It is only through Jesus that we can connect with God, and it is through Jesus that God has initiated a relationship with us. He is our Creator, our Sustainer, our Savior and our God. He is the master of all things and the head and chief shepherd of the church. Therefore we will seek to know, live and proclaim truth out of our love for Jesus. 2. Community - We believe that authentic relationships are the tool that God uses to produce transformation in a person’s life. This occurs best in community groups where discipleship, authenticity, and accountability all occur. 3. Service – We believe that God wants to see our communities and our cities transformed by the power of the gospel. As missionaries in our communities we are committed to being used by God to transform our city by serving others just like Jesus. 4. Diversity – God has created each person unique, with different talents, abilities, personalities, hopes, and dreams. As a church we embrace this diversity and inspire to foster unity among the diverse ethnicities and cultural expressions found in our community from Democrats to Republicans, from Hunters to Vegans, from Soccer Moms to Indie Rockers. 5. Beauty - God is beautiful and His creation reflects his beauty. Men and women are all created in the image of God and are thus endowed with gifts and talents that are designed to reflect God’s beauty. Therefore, we will value both individuals and the works of beauty that they create using their God-given gifts and talents. 6. Relevance – We believe that the church must be culturally relevant and doctrinally pure, just as Paul contextualized the gospel to the people of Athens, we believe that we must contextualize the gospel in our culture. 7. Change – We embrace change and risk-taking over tradition and the status quo. We believe that a healthy church must constantly change in order to adapt to the ever-changing culture in which it exists and must place itself in a position where it is absolutely dependent on God coming through in miraculous ways in order to avoid looking like complete fools. 8. Reproduction – We believe that healthy churches reproduce in 4 ways, disciples reproduce disciples, leaders reproduce leaders, groups reproduce groups and churches reproduce churches. |
